Hyper_local began as a pandemic adaption to our transmission practice – we could not visit/collaborate/create new nodes for narrowcasting in person, so we decided to create a system of communication for ‘hyper_local’ narrowcasting between neighbours/friends/families. Inspired by QSL cards, and clandestine broadcasts, Hyper_Local was supported by an Australia Council for the Arts ‘Adapt’ grant and was developed between 2020 – 2022 (and will continue to grow).

♡ Hyper_local is a love letter ♡

Letter-pressed by Hungry Workshop, each missive contains a design for a short-range FM transmitter (designed by Sagar Sapkota), printed in gold, and a series of suggestions for communications, both real and speculative.

Each letter is unique and will be posted to people in our network who have collaborated with us, mentored us, supported us, inspired us and have contributed to our joyful, experimental electromagnetic journey thus far.

In line with our wish to minimise our environmental impact, we made the letter entirely self-contained, mailable as a DL and recyclable. We made the decision not to include transmitter parts, deciding that if a recipient wanted to build the transmitter they would source the parts themselves, new or (ideally) from a post-consumer source, rather than being mailed parts they may or may not use.

The letter is sent with no obligation, but if any recipients wish to send us photos, videos, sound or any other response to or using the instructions we would love to share them here (email us: sistersakousmatica@gmail.com)
